I Once Wanted To Become A Nurse

I was browsing through my online web albums a few months ago when I saw my mini-reunion photos of me and my friends from grade school. It has been more than ten years since we last saw one another and it was really nice to see them again after a very long time. A number of us were already married and are successful in our careers. One friend, whom I am very close to, is now a nurse and she jokingly told me that she fulfilled my dream of becoming a nurse.

Oh yes, when I was in grade school, I have always wanted to become a nurse. I have always dreamed of sporting those white medical uniforms and white cap that nurses would usually wear. I always think so highly of them, maybe because my mom's cousin who is close to me is a nurse and I just love the scrub tops that she wears. Maybe it's also because they were the ones who really took special care of me when I was confined at the hospital for almost two months because of a car accident. I was eight years old then and it wasn't until I was about to go to high school did I need to give up on that dream because of financial constraints and because I had to get used to the fact that when I reach college, I would need to pursue a science and technology course due to my scholarship contract. Too bad huh?

But I was still happy because I still got the chance to wear lab coats back in high school. While we were studying different microorganisms under the microscope, dissecting a frog, performing different chemical reactions, doing experiments, I fancied myself working at a hospital, maybe in one of the laboratories analysing samples or tending and doing my rounds.

Yes, I once wanted to become a nurse. Although that did not become a reality, I am still able to play the role of a nurse when my husband and my little girl are sick.
